Abstract

Background: The ongoing refugee crises worldwide have created complex challenges for host countries and displaced populations. Afghan refugee women, in particular, face unique hardships due to cultural norms, legal uncertainties, and limited access to essential resources. Despite their resilience, these women often endure heightened psychological distress and socio-economic disadvantages during their resettlement in Pakistan.

Methodology: This qualitative study employs in-depth interviews to explore the lived experiences of Afghan refugee women in Pakistan. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, focusing on those who have been residing in Pakistan for an extended period. Thematic analysis was utilized to identify key themes and patterns in the data.

Results: The findings reveal that Afghan refugee women experience significant barriers to integration, including cultural constraints, discrimination, and inadequate access to healthcare and education. Many participants reported feelings of isolation and loss of identity, compounded by a lack of social support. Despite these challenges, women demonstrated resilience and a strong desire to provide better futures for their families.

Conclusion: The study highlights the urgent need for gender-sensitive policies that address the specific challenges faced by Afghan refugee women. By amplifying their voices, this research aims to inform policies that promote their well-being and facilitate their successful integration into Pakistani society.
